East Kilbride athletes in the medals at student championships

East Kilbride athletes were among the gold medals at the Scottish Universities and Colleges Championships at Grangemouth last week.

Emily Craig won two gold medals over the one lap journey while Strathclyde University team-mate Greg Kelly broke a long standing club record when winning the men’s 100m

Emily, from Auldhouse, had a busy morning combining 400m flat and 400m hurdles events, beating all-comers and recording 58.20 and 62.57 seconds respectively.

Her hurdles win was particularly clear-cut, leading from the gun and running on strongly to win unchallenged.

Greg was competing in an individual event for the first time since winning the New Year Sprint on January 1 and showed his speed and power training is paying off with a scorching win in 10.65 seconds.

Trinidadian long jumper Che Richards, of Edinburgh University, provided a stern test but Greg blitzed out of the blocks to record a big new personal best time which is also a new East Kilbride Athletic Club record.
