Armed police descended on a residential East Kilbride Street yesterday following reports of a man with a firearm.
The incident happened in Elphinstone Crescent around 4.30pm yesterday (Thursday, May 20), reports Lanarkshire Live.
A 57-year-old man has been arrested, understood to have been with firearm offences, and police say no injuries were reported.
Neighbours were ordered to remain in their homes as the drama unfolded, with pictures showing armed officers bearing guns and shields in a communal garden in The Murray.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We received a report of a man in possession of a firearm in the Elphinstone Crescent area of East Kilbride around 4.30pm on Thursday.
“Officers, including specialist firearms officers, attended and a 57-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
“No one was injured and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
A source told Lanarkshire Live how armed responders dealt with the situation swiftly after he saw police vehicles speed past his window.
He added: "We went out and they were out in seconds fully kitted up, guns in hand. "
A large police presence remained on the scene today (Friday).
