Bonfire night has been cancelled for a second year in East Kilbride and Strathaven with plans for the district's two main displays up in smoke.
3rd East Kilbride Scouts and Strathaven and District Round Table announced they have been left with no option but to cancel their annual community fireworks display after local authorities pulled their displays for a second year running.
COVID passports were also highlighted as a problem facing the outdoor event organisers.
Group Scout leader Andrew Brown told Lanarkshire Live : "With COVID uncertainty, having over 1000 folk gathering for a display didn't seem like the right thing to do, especially with a bigger turnout being anticipated with Bonfire night falling on a weekend night this year.
"It's unfortunate as we've been hosting this event since as long as I can remember. We hope to be back next year."
Strathaven and District Round Table said: "We are gutted to announce we have been left with no option but to cancel our annual community fireworks display for the second year running.
"This is following on from neighbouring South/North Lanarkshire Council and Glasgow City Council both cancelling their displays.
"As well as guidelines regarding COVID Passports in relation to outdoor events.
"We hope to be able to provide you with a display in 2022, and with this in mind we'd ask if anyone wishes to become a member of Strathaven Round Table to assist with the preparation of this and our other events, please do feel free to drop us a message."
