East Kilbride and South Lanarkshire will leave tier 4 this week

The First Minister confirmed Lanarkshire will be moved out of Tier 4 on Friday.

Nicola Sturgeon, speaking at her daily briefing, stated that the new level the county would enter would be revealed tomorrow (Tuesday, December 8).

She did say “that they would be looking at the latest data to decide which level each area should enter”.

Less than 1000 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Lanarkshire for the first time in two months.

The First Minister confirmed there had been 103 new cases in Lanarkshire on Sunday.

As a result, last week there were 988 new Covid-19 cases in the region – a 14 per cent decrease on the previous week.

Weekly case numbers are now down by almost two-thirds since peaking at 2719 in week beginning October 19.

Last week was the second week since the Scottish Government moved Lanarkshire into the top tier of coronavirus restrictions in a bid to reduce the “stubbornly high” prevalence of the virus in the region before Christmas.

In total, 20,450 people in Lanarkshire have now tested positive for Covid-19 and 671 people in the region have died after testing positive.
