East Godavari district has highest number of active Covid-19 cases

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 2,107 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, taking the state’s cumulative caseload to 19,62,049. The death toll increased to 13,332 as 20 more patients succumbed to the pandemic virus.

Six patients died in Krishna, four each in Chittoor and Prakasam districts, while one death each was reported in Anantapur, East Godavari, Kadapa, Nellore, Visakhapatnam and West Godavari districts. As many as 1,807 patients were declared cured. There are currently 21,279 active cases in the state, with 19,27,438 cumulative recoveries and 13,332 fatalities.

Chittoor district reported 392 new infections, followed by East Godavari (316), Krishna (303), Nellore (242), Prakasam (200), Guntur (193) and Visakhapatnam (163). Six districts in the state recorded double-digit case numbers with Vizianagaram registering as few as 28 cases on Thursday.

Health officials conducted 78,784 tests to detect the 2,107 new cases, translating to a case positivity rate of 2.67 per cent. The state has tested a total of 2,44,03,410 samples so far. Kurnool has the lowest active caseload among all districts at 205. East Godavari has highest active caseload of 3,843, amounting to nearly 20% of active cases in state.
