East Chicago police are investigating a fatal shooting from Sunday in northwest Indiana.
A male in his late teens or early 20s was found with gunshot wounds in an alley in the 1200 block of West 150th Street, according to East Chicago police Deputy Chief Jose Rivera.
People barbecuing in the area were not immediately aware of the shooting and thought the gunfire was fireworks, Rivera said.
The victim, who remains unidentified, was seen earlier in the area walking with another male, he said. Detectives are reviewing city surveillance cameras.
Rivera said there were three gunshots, but that the man was struck twice.
The victim was wearing size 12 Timberland shoes, maroon Royal Premium pants, size 32x30, and a large, red “Lee” sweatshirt, the Lake County coroner’s office said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:20 p.m. and his death was ruled a homicide, the coroner’s office said.
