An East Belfast playpark has been closed until further notice after being damaged by vandals.
Belfast City Council have closed the Flora Street Walkway playpark today after part of the soft ground surface was damaged over the weekend.
Local families expressed their sadness at seeing the park closed saying vandalism is a constant problem at it.
East Belfast Alliance councillor Michelle Kelly said: "This is really upsetting to see again, it’s a vital community resource enjoyed by children and families. I would appeal to those behind it not to do this again, it is simply mindless vandalism. Anyone with information, no matter how small, should contact PSNI."
Green Party councillor Anthony Flynn said: "It is a disgrace that the park is repeatedly suffering vandalism and being forced to close. Over the past few years this has happened multiple times and those responsible are only harming their own community and depriving others of a valuable resource.
"I would urge anyone to contact the police if they have any information regarding this vandalism."
A Belfast City Council spokesperson said: “The Flora Street Walkway play park is closed until further notice due to damage caused to the soft ground surface following vandalism over the weekend. An assessment of the damage has been carried out and Council staff will now liaise with contractors to get the necessary repairs made.
"We will be engaging with the PSNI on the issue and would appeal to the public to report any incidences of anti-social behaviour to the police or the Council’s Community Safety team.”
