A brave pensioner warded off an intruder who broke into her house in the early hours in East Belfast.

The would-be burglar broke into the property on the Ravenhill Road area around 1:55am on Wednesday morning.

Detective Sergeant Eric Fairfield said: "A woman in her 70s was woken by an unknown man walking in the landing of her property.

"She told him to leave and he made off from the property.

“The man was described as being approximately 5’10” in height, in his 50s and wearing dark clothing.

“It is not believed anything was taken from the property.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area, or who may have CCTV footage from the area should contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 97 of 09/09/20.

“A report can be made using the online reporting form via  www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
