East Belfast motorist gets telling off from child over pavement parking

A Belfast motorist who parked their car on the footpath has received a stern telling off from a concerned child.

The hand-written note was placed on the windscreen of a car in East Belfast after the motorist parked on the pavement, blocking the way for pedestrians, wheelchair users and parents with prams.

The note which reads 'Fine, from the Police', tells the motorist that their actions of parking on the 'whole sidewalk' means that 'elderly can't get past and might get run over', 'wheelchairs can't get past' as well as 'mothers and fathers with prams can't get past'.

Highlighting the incident on Twitter, Alliance Councillor Ross McMullan said the motorist at fault was 'selfish' and urged PSNI to get in touch with the driver to get it moved from the area.

He posted: "Something tells me this isn’t a real police fine on this car- but it def gets the message across. Blocking the pavement like this is selfish and a hazard to pedestrians. I’ve reported to 101 so hopefully the real @PSNIBelfastE will be in touch with the driver to get it moved."

Parking issues have been raised numerous times across Belfast, with drivers slammed for leaving little room on footpaths for parents with prams, wheelchairs users and also blocking access to roads for emergency service vehicles and bin lorries.

Last year PSNI said that those who park blocking footpaths in the city could be hit with a £35 on the spot fine.
