Police said they received a report than two males armed with knives and baseball bats gained entry to the home on Moorgate Street around 12.50am.

And that once inside "assaulted" a male occupant in his 40s and "damaged a TV set".

The PSNI is appealing for information.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: "Shortly before 00:50am, it was reported that two males wearing dark clothes and the faces covered gained entry to a house in the area. The males are believed to have been armed with baseball bats and knives, [and] damaged a TV set in the property during the incident.

"A male occupant aged in his 40s inside the property was assaulted receiving cuts to his face and is believed to have been struck on the head. The male received injuries that are not believed to be serious.

"Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area between 10pm on Monday 11 May and 00:50am on Tuesday 12 May, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 78 12/05/20.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
