East Belfast group hosting Afghan refugee clothing appeal for Care4Calais

An East Belfast group is hosting a city wide appeal for clothes to help Afghan refugees who fled their country with only the clothes on their backs.

Second hand clothing start-up Haru has handed over the use of its Portview premises to the charity Care4Calais on Monday and Tuesday to allow people to drop off any donations they have to a central point.

They say the reason is because "as Afghan refugees begin to arrive in the UK they will only have the clothes they are standing in".

Haru Marketing manager Peter Prucell told Belfast Live: "We are using our space in Portview as a drop off point for the charity Care4Calais on Monday and Tuesday.

"They are gathering needed clothing for Afghan refugees arriving in the UK.

"They provided us with the things they need, we are just helping to facilitate with our team and space."

In an update on Monday evening, he added: "So this post is currently sign posting people to us tomorrow, however we’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness of donors and Care 4 Calais can’t accept anymore donations (their warehouse is full to the brim) Another World Belfast, who work with local refugees and asylum seekers will continue to accept donations from their warehouse in Conswater."
