East Belfast crash involving pedestrian sees man taken to hospital

A man has been taken to hospital following a crash in East Belfast.

Police say the collision on Wednesday morning, May 26, involved a car and a pedestrian but the extent of the injuries of the patient aren't known yet.

Officers have closed the North Road in both directions between Orangefield Road and Kirkliston Park where the incident happened.

The ambulance service, one rapid response paramedic and the Air Ambulance attended the incident.

A tweet from NI Road Policing and Safety at around 9.15am said: "The North Road in east Belfast has been closed in both directions between Orangefield Road and Kirkliston Park following a road traffic collision. Diversions are in place, however, delays are expected."

A PSNI spokesperson later added that the collision involved a car and pedestrian.

"One man was taken to hospital but the extent of his injuries aren't known at this stage," they added.

A spokesperson for NIAS said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 08.35 on Wednesday, 26 May 2021 following reports of an RTC in the North Road area of Ballyhackamore.

"NIAS despatched one Emergency crew and one Rapid Response Paramedic and to the scene. The charity Air Ambulance with HEMs crew on board was also tasked to the incident.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance."
