East Ayrshire village celebrates crowning of gala day queen

The misery of the last four months was forgotten for one day as Fenwick crowned its gala queen.

Families and friends of the gala queen and her official party, as well as villagers, turned out and were strongly advised by organisers to practice social distancing at Saturday’s event.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, gala day festivities and agricultural shows have had to be cancelled.

However, as lockdown restrictions have eased, Fenwick decided to hold its crowning ceremony with Rachel Kennedy able to enjoy her big day.

And to ensure everyone’s safety, she was crowned by mum Bobby.

Councillor John McFadzean was the man with the mic.

The full gala court was: Queen – Rachel Kennedy; Squire – Jack Simpson; Lady-in-Waiting – Domonique Gordon; Paige – Ross McCready; Flower Girls – Sophi Mitchell and Naila McDonald.
