East Ayrshire property pledge campaign to take care of special buildings

People who use East Ayrshire Council buildings have been urged to make a property pledge.

The Property Pledge campaign was launched at Kilmarnock’s Onthank Primary School.

The pledge aims to promote a sense of pride and co-ownership in those who use, work in and visit council buildings and encourages them to highlight any aspects that require attention to the manager of the premises.

School caretakers, head teachers, janitors, premise managers and community representatives will all be asked to sign the pledge on behalf of the property they work in or use.

The initiative also aims to drive up standards of workmanship as council contractors pledge to deliver a quality repair service, with their workmanship being rated by property support staff.

Representatives from the council and members of the parent council were welcomed to Onthank Primary by head teacher Alison Wright, teaching staff and pupils, before signing the pledge to work together to keep the building, and its fixtures and fittings, in the best standard.

The property pledge will be rolled out across council premises from schools to health and social care, and leisure to office accommodation.

Councillor Jim Roberts said: “This pledge is about much more than just the maintenance of our buildings; it’s about encouraging everyone to take an interest and pride in the buildings we use and enjoy.”
