East Ayrshire Council leader in essential services pledge

East Ayrshire Council’s leader says the local authority will do all it can to maintain essential services as mainland Scotland went into lockdown again.

Councillor Douglas Reid said it was understandable that tough measures were implemented at midnight on Tuesday in a bid to curb rising infections.

Councillor Reid said: “We know that yesterday’s announcement by the Scottish Government is not the way that anyone wanted to start off the New Year.

“The reality, however, is that we’re seeing a significantly high increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in our communities and it’s therefore understandable that tougher restrictions have to be put in place for what will hopefully be a short period of time.

“We will do all we can at East Ayrshire Council to support communities and to maintain essential services wherever possible over the coming weeks.

“For more information on the support available, please visit www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk or call (01563) 554400.

“If we all stick to the latest restrictions, we can minimise the spread of this virus, keep people safe and hopefully then everyone will soon be able to enjoy a happier 2021.”
