East Ayrshire binmen to work over the weekend after experiencing 'extremely high volumes' of recycling

East Ayrshire binmen are working this weekend after experiencing extremely high volumes of excess recycling.

Crews hit the road for the first time in weeks on Monday as recycling routes were reinstated in the region during lockdown.

And due to increased amounts of waste, binmen will be working this Saturday and Sunday to make sure residents' waste gets uplifted.

East Ayrshire councillor Barry Douglas confirmed that households in the Glebe Road/Loanhead area didn't get their recycling trolley and food bins uplifted.

The Labour politician said: "I am aware some constituents in and around the Glebe Road/Loanhead area didn’t get their recycling trolley and food waste bins uplifted, the recycling crews will be working on Saturday and Sunday this weekend and will make every effort to uplift the trolley, food waste and any excess from as many households affected as possible.

"Householders are advised to have their containers and any excess out for collection by no later than 6.30am."

Earlier in the week East Ayrshire Council confirmed that crews were experiencing extremly high volumes of recycling as households received their first uplift in more than a month.

The local authority posted on Facebook: "As you will appreciate, we are experiencing extremely high volumes of excess recycling.

"If your recycling trolley has not been emptied today (Stewarton & Kilmaurs) it will be emptied as a priority on your next scheduled collection day the following week.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience."
