A 3.2 magnitude earthquake has been recorded south of Jindabyne on Wednesday.

The earthquake was registered almost 20 kilometres south of the Snowy Mountains town just after 10am.

Geoscience Australia has said almost 100 people in the area had been estimated to have felt the quake.

The tremors were recorded as happening five kilometres below the earth's surface.

No injuries or property damage have been recorded from the small earthquake.

However, residents in the area said on social media they had heard loud bangs.

Some had reported as having felt the earthquake as far away as Cooma.
