Earthquake recorded in Co Antrim

If you felt the earth move on Wednesday night it could have been an earthquake off the Antrim coast .

The Irish National Seismic Network and British Geological Survey seismometers caught the activity on their systems on December 18.

The earthquake located approximately 10km east of both Ballycastle and Rathlin Island , and at a depth of 1km.

The earthquake with a magnitude 1.5 on the Richter Scale was recorded on Wednesday night.

The shallow quake struck at 8.22pm.

This is the sixth earthquake in the area in the last nine years recorded by the Irish National Seismic Network.

The largest of which was a M1.6 earthquake occurring on the October 23, 2013.
