An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 reportedly struck nearly 38 km north of the Egyptian city of Suez before dawn, at around 3:00 am on Monday.

According to Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, no reports of casualties or damage to property were received.
As per the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake struck at a depth of about 10 kilometres and reportedly had a magnitude of 5.4, Reuters reported.
Meanwhile, as authorities continue to assess the situation, the Egyptian Red Crescent has requested residents to avoid buildings that show signs of structural damage, and to follow official updates.
The body had reportedly activated its emergency response plan in regions that experienced the shockwaves.
