Earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude hits Egyptian city of Suez

An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 ‌reportedly struck nearly 38 km north of the Egyptian city of Suez before dawn, at around 3:00 am on Monday.

According to Egypt's National Research ⁠Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, ​no reports of casualties or damage to property were received.

As per the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake struck at a depth of about 10 kilometres and reportedly had a magnitude of 5.4, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, as authorities ​continue to ​assess ⁠the situation, the Egyptian Red Crescent has requested residents to avoid buildings that show signs of structural damage, and to follow official updates.

The body had reportedly activated ​its emergency response plan in ​regions that experienced the shockwaves. ‌
