Earthquake in the Pacific sends people fleeing from homes

  • A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the central Philippines on Tuesday night, sending residents into the streets.
  • The quake was centred approximately 17 kilometres northeast of Bogo, a coastal city of about 90,000 people.
  • It caused damage to concrete walls of houses, a fire station, and a stone church, resulting in power cuts and deep cracks on roads.
  • The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology anticipates both damage and aftershocks from the seismic event.
  • No tsunami threat was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, and there were no immediate reports of deaths.
