Earth Day 2021: Nine eco-friendly businesses to support in Ireland

Earth Day 2021 is upon us and there are plenty of ways we can help to save the environment.

One of the things we can do is switch to eco-friendly shopping practices and buy from sustainable businesses.

There are a number of environmentally-friendly stores in Ireland to buy from, with many based right here in Dublin, so you'll be spoilt for choice

Earth Day falls on April 22 every year and here are some top nine businesses to support this year:

reuzi.ie

Bamboo Coffee Cup (Reuzi)

reuzi.ie has everything from homeware, kitchenware to grooming products and even gift sets!

Owned and operated by Pat Kane, reuzi have an online store and a bricks and mortar shop in Foxrock, Dublin.

Jiminy.ie

Jiminy Earth Ball (Mertxe Alarcon)

Jiminy.ie, started by Dublin mum Sharon Keilthy, sells toys made from sustainable and natural materials.

They have over 300 toys made locally from natural or recycled materials.

They make it easy to get earth-kind, fun, educational toys, arts and crafts for the littles in your life.

at HOME style

The Dublin-based store sells luxury sustainable lifestyle products, curated and created in Ireland.

Starting on Earth Day everyone who makes a purchase of an at HOME style candle will enjoy a paper-seeded greeting card.

They are encouraging people to reuse their at HOME style glass candle jars when they are finished burning their candles, to plant their seeded paper cards, and watch lavender grow from them.

These jars can then be placed, on window sills, in gardens, and on balconies, for bees to enjoy as well.

Johnny Magory

Johnny Magory helps families reconnect with Ireland's wonderfully unique wildlife and heritage.

The latest book in the series by Kildare author Emma Jane Leeson is available this month. readers young and old can enjoy a trip to the farm with Johnny, Lily-May, Ruairi and their farmyard friends in Johnny Magory and the Farmyard Féasta.

bambooth

Did you know most of us could use 300 plastic toothbrushes during our lifetime? Not any more thanks to two bright entrepreneurs. bambooth was set up by Irish couple Niamh McGill and Joe Finnegan.

The Source Bulk Food

This Rathmines shop is a local health and bulk food store. They have over 500 bulk foods including organic wholefoods, cereals, herbs and spices, cooking liquids and oils, healthy snacks and sustainable personal and household products.

And it's all plastic free!

NutShed.ie

NutShed offers award-winning Peanut Butters, raw energy balls and plant-based treats.

The company is a member of Bord Bia’s Origin Green, implementing an intricate sustainability structure to their company, in areas such as environmental consciousness, community contributions and employee well-being.

Little Green Shop

The online store has a fantastic variety of products on sale with everything from health and beauty to kitchen and homeware and even kids' products.

Lou's Lot

This Dublin-based boutique gives authentic designer accessories a new lease of life by reworking them. They also offer "preloved" and vintage designer jewellery.
