'Earning his money!' - Arsenal fans hail arrival from Man City as Pep Guardiola is proved right

Arsenal fans have taken to social media to heap praise on Nicolas Jover after the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

Whilst the Gunners' six signings in Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Martin Odegaard dominated the headlines in the summer transfer window, manager Mikel Arteta made an addition to his backroom staff.

At the beginning of July, Jover arrived at the Emirates Stadium after leaving Premier League rivals Manchester City when his contract expired at the end of June.

As a result, Jover took over from Andreas Georgson - who headed back to his native Sweden with Malmo after spending one season with the Gunners - as a set-piece specialist - a similar role he held at the Etihad Stadium.

Arteta was already familiar with Jover having worked alongside him for a few months when the latter arrived at City from Brentford in the summer of 2019.

And as per L'Equipe, via Sport Witness, Pascal Grosbois - specialist set-piece coach himself - revealed why Pep Guardiola opted to appoint Jover.

“L1 [Ligue 1] clubs do not yet see the usefulness of a coach dedicated to set pieces," Grosbois said. "While at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola did not hesitate to hire a Frenchman, Nicolas Jover.

"It’s a shame, because there is untapped potential."

For Guardiola to not hesitate on bringing Jover on board at City would suggest that Arteta has made a rather astute addition to his backroom staff.

Furthermore, he revealed what Arsenal players could expect from Jover in training.

When asked how often his players practiced set-pieces during the 2019/2020 season, Guardiola replied: "Every day."

The Man City boss has been proven right as the Gunners looked extremely dangerous from set-pieces against Villa in an attacking sense and solid when defending them.

With Thomas Partey opening his account for the club by flicking the ball home from a corner and dealing rather comfortably with Villa's set-pieces, some Arsenal fans have been quick to hail Jover's obvious involvement at both ends of the pitch.
