Yes, it’s that time of year again – the 2022 Oscars are finally upon us!
The Academy Awards are taking place tonight (27 March), with films including The Power of the Dog, West Side Story, Licorice Pizza and Coda battling it out in the big categories.
This year’s show will be presented by not one, not two, but three presenters in the forms of Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes.
It means a slight return to Oscar normality after the pandemic ensured a less starry affair in 2021, with no host to speak of and fewer guests.
That doesn’t mean tonight’s ceremony has been a breeze, though. The show has already faced controversy after it was announced that eight categories – many of them technical, as well as a handful of lifetime achievement awards – are to be cut from the broadcast and not shown on TV. Many within the industry have been perplexed and upset by the move, so expect some tension tonight.
