Early Steps Nursery in Bathgate donate money to specialist unit at St John's

The children and staff at Bathgate based Early Steps Nursery, have been going the extra mile to make sure they make the most of their fund raising efforts.

Over the last couple of months the children and staff have been baking cakes and selling them to parents and employees at the Pyramids Business Park where the nursery is based.

The children have also been taking part in sponsored events.

The Little Paws children aged up to three years had great fundraising funds by completing an obstacle course.

The older children in Big Paws aged three to five years old and afterschool kids in The Cave took part in a danceathon to help raise money.

Carol Armstrong the nursery owner took part in daily walks around the perimeter joined by some of the staff.

If it wasn’t enough to take part in the walk battling the elements, they also tested out the obstacle course and outdoor gym equipment on their way.

And it didn’t get any easier when they got back to the nursery either, each day they were subjected to being splatted by paint by the children just to finish thing off.

All of these efforts really paid off when the children were able to present Becky Gallagher, a Macmillan Nurse Specialist in Breast Care from St John’s, a cheque for an amazing £1375 just before Christmas.

Carol commented: “We hope that this goes some way to help the Breast Care Unit in St John’s continue to offer support and comfort to anyone who attends the unit.

“They do an outstanding job, they welcome you with open arms and do everything in their power to make sure you get what you need.

“Everyone’s journey is different, for some they are a listening ear, others they are the rock they need. They truly care, and help make some of the worst times in peoples life a bit more bearable.

“I feel privileged that the parents, staff and children at Early Steps allow me to be able to present cheques like this each year. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart for their support.”
