Early start This Morning could fill Jeremy Kyle slot in ITV schedule shake-up

Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby could be rewarded with bumper pay rises – as they look to replace Jeremy Kyle with a new longer format of This Morning.

It would see the popular daytime show start half an hour earlier at 10am, but the idea has yet to be confirmed.

The revamp would feature Phil and Holly talking through readers’ letters and stories of the day where “nothing is off limit”. The pair are currently enjoying their summer break from the show.

In a massive overhaul, the first half hour of Good Morning Britain would be replaced with news – meaning a lie-in for Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid who would start at 6.30am.

Lorraine would be moved to the later start of 9am, the Daily Star reports.

The plan detailing the changes was submitted to a select ITV focus group for feedback. A copy of it reads: “An earlier helping of Phil and Holly every day with a new show opener at 10am featuring funny viewer’s letters and emails with the hilarious and peculiar things they have sent in.

“Nothing is off limit as they talk about the stories and pictures of the day that have grabbed their attention.”

Bosses also said they wanted the daytime schedule to become “more of a live event” – with all the presenters, including Lorraine, talking to each other as they handover from show to show.

TV had been agonising over what to replace the Jeremy Kyle Show with , as it was the most popular programme in the channel’s daytime schedule, attracting a regular audience of one million viewers.

It was axed after the suicide of guest Steve Dymond.

Last night an ITV insider said they were “looking at different ideas” although “no decisions have yet been made.”
