Early Omicron symptom you can hear before feeling unwell

You could hear an early symptom of Omicron before you feel any other ill effects, according to experts.

The signs and symptoms are of Omicron are similar to a common cold, meaning cases could be going missed.

One of the things which can be affected first is your voice - it can often become hoarse or husky.

The ZOE Symptom Covid Study, the world's largest data study into the virus, said: "A hoarse voice can be an early symptom, but its pattern of presentation can vary.

"Usually, it appears in the first week of illness and builds gradually. For other people, a hoarse voice comes and goes. "

Using the most recent data from London, where Omicron prevalence is higher than other regions of the UK, ZOE data scientists analysed symptom data from positive cases recorded.

The top 5 symptoms were:

  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue (mild or severe)
  • Sneezing
  • Sore throat

Loss of appetite and brain fog were also identified as common symptoms.

Professor Tim Spector, from the ZOE app, is urging anyone experiencing any of these symptoms to get tested and avoid social contact until you know it's not covid.
