Early odds released for five 2023 Ohio State football games

We’re still just under 60 days before the Ohio State football season begins, but some of the sportsbooks in Vegas have already begun publishing odds for some of the bigger and most notable games for the college football season.

In the case of the Buckeyes, FanDuel has the odds out on five games already. We’re sure those are bound to move, but we thought you’d be interested in what the narrative of this team is before the season begins.

As you’ll see, Vegas likes Ohio State quite a bit, though there is one out of the five games in which the Buckeyes are not the favorite by a very thin margin. You can probably guess which game that is, but we’ll still run you through the numbers anyway.

Here’s a look at five games FanDuel has odds on already and where Ohio State is in the published lines for each.

Ohio State at Indiana - Saturday, Sept. 2 at 3:30 p.m. ET

Where thing stand

Early Odds | Ohio State -27.5

Ohio State has dominated Indiana throughout the course of Big Ten play and it’s pretty easy to see how that could happen again even with this game being a trip to Bloomington. Indiana is searching for itself and OSU has a load of talent that it’s putting on the bus.

Where thing stand

Early Odds | Ohio State -8.5

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone that believes Ohio State isn’t the more talented team heading into 2023, but this game is in South Bend at night, and that’s going to be tricky. Don’t be surprised if this line moves more toward the Fighting Irish as the game gets closer.

Ohio State vs. Penn State - Saturday, Oct. 21 (Time TBD)

Where thing stand

Early Odds | Ohio State -10.5

The Buckeyes have won six in a row and ten of the last 11 matchups between these two bluebloods, but Penn State could be a serious contender in the East Division this year with plenty of talent back at the skill positions and defense. The line seems a little too big at this point, but we’ll see how it all plays out when the season begins and we see what both teams are made of.

Ohio State vs. Michigan State - Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET

Where thing stand

Early Odds | Ohio State -24.5

Things have gotten ugly and out of hand over the last couple of years between these two. If there’s such thing as public flogging in college football, that’s what Ohio State has done to Michigan State. This should be more of the same in the ‘Shoe in 2023 barring any major surprises with these two ballclubs.

Where thing stand

Early Odds | Michigan -1

Look, give Michigan credit. Nobody will ever convince me that Ohio State wasn’t the more talented team the last couple of years, but the Wolverines simply wanted it more. I do expect the Buckeyes to show up and play much better than what we saw in 2021 and 2022, but yeah, it probably makes sense for the maize and blue to be slightly favored over the colors of scarlet and gray at this point. You’ll get no arguments from me, and I’ll also say that Ohio State could very easily turn this thing around again in Ann Arbor.
