Let’s talk about some early odds

College football is now in double-digits, albeit at the high end, which means more and more game odds are being trickled out. Now that sports gambling is open to more states outside of Nevada means that there are more sportsbooks popping up around the country.

FanDuel is a well-known fantasy sports site for daily contest but they also are in the sportsbook business in certain states. They have released quite a few game odds so we go through and give and early take for these matchups with buy, sell, or wait and see.

Colorado State vs. Colorado in Denver (+12)

Wait and see: Colorado does have one of the best wide outs in the country in Laviska Shenault Jr. and the Rams defense has not been great so that could be a real issue. Colorado State QB Collin Hill could be a difference maker but what wide receiver will step up is a question. The near two-touchdown line seems a bit much for now.

Boise State vs. Florida State in Jacksonville (+3)

Buy Boise State: Even with Boise State not knowing who the quarterback will be as they take on the Seminoles in a “neutral game” in Jacksonville. However, Florida State also will have a new quarterback for its opener, and the Broncos defense will be really good.

San Diego State at Colorado State (+6.5)

Buy San Diego State: It might depend on Aztecs quarterback Ryan Agnew but it may not matter since running back Juwan Washington should be one of the best two backs in the conferece. The Rams Hill could make things interesting but doesn’t seem to be enough.

Hawaii at Boise State (-17.5)

Buy Hawaii: This line seems way over the top. Yes, the Warriors have to make the long trip to Boise, Idaho, but the offense the Warriors possess will score points against any team this year. Hawaii probably won’t win but it seems unlikely they will lose by more than two touchdowns.

UNLV at Fresno State (-19)

Buy UNLV: This is again a lot of points for Fresno State to be giving to UNLV. Assuming Rebels QB Armani Rogers is fully healthy, it is tough to assume them losing to the Bulldogs in blowout fashion. The Bulldogs defense will be formidable but not sure if that offense can score enough points to get an easy win.

Boise State at BYU (+2)

Buy Boise State: BYU does expect to be better in 2019 but a lingering issue with the Cougars offense is not getting enough attention and that is Zach Wilson’s health. The quarterback is the future for the Cougars but he had offseason shoulder surgery and has not thrown this offseason. The game is late enough in the year for that to not be an issue, but the Broncos should just be better overal.

Wyoming at Boise State (-16.5)

Wait and see: This basically falls in the line of too many points to be given for Boise State. The Wyoming defense is great and should be able to slow down the Broncos for a bit but their offense is not expected to be all that great. So, this game could be one where the Cowboys defense does well enough to keep the Broncos off the board a bit but their offense is not really going to perform enough to score.

Colorado State at Wyoming (-8.5)

Buy Colorado State: Out of all of the odds listed this one seems the most unique. Neither of these teams are really expected to compete for a bowl berth this year which makes this line even more interesting. This game will be strength vs. strength with the Rams offense vs. Cowboys defense and vice versa with weakness vs. weakness. By virtue of the matchups this game should very likely be a one score contest.

Boise State at Colorado State (+18.5)

Wait and see: This one might be based off of history since Boise State has not yet to lose to Colorado State in the Mountain West. The Broncos should be the better team this year and very likely contend for the conference title. However, this game is on the road and the nearly three-touchdown advantage is just a bit too much to take Boise State to cover and win.
