A car was set alight in Irvine during the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened around 1am in the Lewis Wynd area of the North Ayrshire town.

Police say there were no injuries but that the matter is being treated as a wilful fireraising with an investigation launched.

In a bid to reassure residents and members of the public, the police over the next few days will deploy additional resources in the local area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are carrying out extensive inquiries and asking for anyone with information, or who may have seen any suspicious activity nearby to please come forward.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone with any relevant CCTV from the area around this time.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.

“Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident 0274 of 21 June, 2023. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
