Early morning 'housebreaking' leads to 'high speed' car chase through Glasgow

AN arrest has been made following a dramatic "high speed" car chase through the streets of Glasgow this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 5am on Monday morning as Glasgow and Lanarkshire road police officers received reports of a theft of a Ford Focus during an alleged housebreaking in the city's West End.

While searching the Kelvinside area, police clocked the car racing from the scene at high speed with no lights on.

Images shared by Police Scotland show the vehicle, which is reported to have had a 'number of men on board', being chased along both Great Western Road and Cleveden Road.

The car was followed until it reached the Temple area where occupants are then said to have exited before fleeing the scene on foot.

The alleged driver of the car was caught by police before being arrested and charged for 'a number of RTA offences' and was held in court to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

Sharing an account of the incident on social media, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5am on Monday, April 24 Glasgow road police and Lanarkshire road police responded to reports of a theft of a motor vehicle after a housebreaking in the West End of Glasgow.

"Whilst searching the area this Ford Focus was spotted driving away at high speed with no lights and a number of males on board.

"It was pursued through the area until the occupants made off on foot in the Temple area.

"The driver was captured, arrested and charged for a number of RTA offences and held in court to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court."
