Early morning fire tears through Pontypridd gym

A fire has destroyed a gym on a Pontypridd industrial estate.

Flames broke out early on Thursday morning at the Maritime Industrial Estate in Maesycoed.

South Wales Fire and Rescue were called to tackle the blaze at Energise Gym at about 5am on Thursday, December 16.

Pictures from the scene show extensive damage, where officials remain at the site.

The fire was extinguished by 6.55am and nobody was reported injured in the blaze.

A Spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue said: "At approximately 4.55am on Thursday, December 16 2021, we received reports of a commercial fire in Maes-Y-Coed, Pontypridd.

"Multiple crews attended the scene and used specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.

"The incident concluded at approximately 6:55am and a fire investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire."
