Early morning arson attack in Coatbridge as BMW and Mercedes cars set on fire

Monklands police are appealing for the public’s help after two cars were set on fire in Coatbridge at the weekend.

The blaze, which took place during the early hours of Sunday morning and has been described as a “terrifying experience” for the vehicles’ owners, is believed to have been “started deliberately”.

The cars – a Merecedes and a BMW – were parked in a driveway on Townhead’s Tantallon Drive when they were targeted at around 2am.

Emergency services were called to a report of two vehicles being alight, with both cars “extensively damaged” as a result of the fire.

Police are looking for witnesses to come forward to report “anything suspicious” in the area at the time of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Graeme Lawrence, of Coatbridge CID, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the owners of these vehicles.

“Enquiries are underway and I would ask anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning, and saw or heard anything suspicious, to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0630 of September 22, 2019.

“Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be given in confidence.”
