Early May bank holiday Met Office forecast for Wales with dry weather on the way

The good news is that bank holiday Monday looks set to be dry across Wales, but it is unlikely to be very warm. The current spell of dry, settled weather looks set to continue but the Met Office is forecasting that temperatures will not rise until the end of next week.

There would be some rain in places on Sunday, but Welsh forecaster Derek Brockway said that Monday looks set to be dry across the country. The first Monday of May has been a bank holiday since 1978. The BBC's UK long-range forecast for Monday says: "The day should start fair across all regions except northern Scotland where some intermittent rain is possible.

"Through the morning some isolated showers could develop across the country. Any showers should die out across Northern Ireland, Wales and England through the afternoon while the rain becomes more intense across Scotland."

Temperatures over the weekend are forecast to start at 1 C. below normal on Saturday then warm 1°C. above average on Sunday. The Met Office forecast for Wales this weekend says: "Remaining dry on Friday and Saturday with variable cloud and sunny periods. A little showery rain is possible in places on Sunday, but some places may stay generally dry."

Detailed weather maps for Cardiff on Monday show highs of 16°C with sunshine and clouds, and remaining dry. In Swansea, it will be 15°C with sunshine and clouds. Aberystwyth will be cloudy in the morning, but should brighten up in the afternoon with highs of 14°C, while Llandudno and Wrexham will be cloudy with highs between 14 and 15°C.

For Sunday and Monday the Met Office's UK forecast says: “Throughout the start of May, much of the south is likely to see continuing dry and sunny spells. “Parts of the north and west are more likely to experience cloudier conditions, with spells of mainly light rain or showers at times.

“Winds are expected to remain light and temperatures staying above average for most, but parts of the south-east may experience colder mornings and some late season frost.”
