Early indications Seahawks ‘made the right choice’ with L.J. Collier

Seahawks first-round draft pick, defensive end L.J. Collier, took to Seattle’s practice field for this first time last weekend during the team’s rookie minicamp.

Seattle added the pash rusher this April with the hopes he could fill some of the void left behind after Frank Clark was traded to the Chiefs.

Expectations will be high for the rookie, who coach Pete Carroll has compared to former Seahawk, Michael Bennett.

With strict rules regulating what rookies can actually do over the offseason, Carroll will need to see more in the upcoming months. But for now, Collier looks to be every bit the part.

“He’s gonna fit in the way we want to plan and there’s a lot of work to be done because there’s no pads for these guys,” Carroll explained after camp Sunday. “But as far as the style of play, the way he fits into the scheme, we’ve made the right choice in that regard and I think we have a good plan for it now.

“There’s a lot to learn, we have a long ways to go, but very satisfied with what he did.”

The Seahawks resume Phase Two of the offseason workouts this week, with Organized Team Activites (OTAs) set to begin on May 20. Seattle wraps up the offseason program June 13 after a three-day, mandatory minicamp.
