Early hours ‘explosion’ heard across Glasgow caused by four vehicles and roof on fire in Renfrew

Firefighters worked through the early hours of this morning to extinguish a large blaze in Renfrew following reports of an ‘explosion’ in the area.

As reported on Glasgow Live, people across the city reported hearing the bang shortly after midnight on Friday and around 25 firefighters were scrambled to the scene at Meadowside Street around 12.48am.

Two lorries and two vans were alight, with flames spreading to the roof of a nearby building.

Three appliances tackled the blaze which has since been extinguished, although a crew remains on the scene - and thankfully, no one was injured.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 12.48am, we were called to reports of two vans and two lorries on fire on Meadowside Street, Renfrew.

"Operations control mobilised three appliances.

"One appliance is still in attendance."
