Early goal in overtime gives Blackhawks 2-1 win over Avalanche

CHICAGO _ Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews scored nine seconds into overtime Tuesday for a 2-1 victory against the Avalanche.

Erik Gustafsson scored his second goal of the season and the first of the game, the same day he signed a two-year contract extension.

Gustafsson put the Hawks ahead 1-0 just 5 minutes, 8 seconds into the game.

Nathan MacKinnon's 32nd goal of the season found the back of the net from the front with 3:42 left in the period to tie the score 1-all on the Avalanche's 25th shot on net.

Patrick Kane put a spin move on an Avalanche defender and backhanded a pass to Brandon Saad in front of the net. Saad took a few whacks at the puck before the red light illuminated with 1:17 remaining in the period.

But after a review, Saad was ruled to have kicked in the puck, resulting in officials kicking out the goal.

Hawks coach Joel Quenneville let an expletive fly when he learned of the ruling, which erased what would have been Saad's 16th goal.
