Early Estimates Say Sisi is On Course for Big Election Win

Preliminary results show President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is leading Egypt’s presidential election, beating with votes his only challenger Moussa Moustafa Moussa, Egyptian media reported on Thursday.

State-owned newspaper Akhbar el-Youm reported that Sisi received 21.5 million votes while Moussa garnered 721,000 votes.

The three days voting ended on Wednesday amid expectations that Sisi will be awarded a second four-year term.

Hours before polls closed, the electoral commission issued a last-minute call for people to vote, and voting was extended by one hour, Reuters reported .

According to reports, the number of participants in the elections amounted to 23 million and 293 thousand voters, while the number of registered voters in Egypt is about 60 million.

Final results are due on Monday.
