BRIEF: Pollard Alliance chairman recommends three for Bears general manager job

Dec. 31--Three candidates for the Bears general manager vacancy have emerged through discussions between new team consultant Ernie Accorsi and John Wooten, the chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance.

Ravens director of pro personnel Vince Newsome, Giants vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross and Titans vice president of player personnel Lake Dawson were all recommended to Accorsi by Wooten, who chairs the foundation that promotes diversity and equality of job opportunity in the coaching, front office and scouting staffs of NFL teams.

"All of those guys have outstanding evaluation skills," said Wooten, who told the Tribune of his recommendations.

Ross interviewed for the Bears' general manager vacancy in 2012 before Phil Emery was hired. He has an extensive background in college scouting and has been with the Giants since 2007.

Newsome has spent five seasons in his current role in Baltimore where the Ravens have one of the most respected front office setups in the NFL. The team has made the playoffs in six of the last seven seasons.
