Earliest date we could see 'normal life' back in roadmap after lockdown

Boris Johnson is set to lay out his roadmap out of lockdown tomorrow in the House of Commons.

The Prime Minister will reveal how he plans to get the nation out of lockdown restrictions and back to normal life after almost a year of coronavirus restrictions.

Mr Johnson will speak in Parliament at 3.30pm and will then address the nation in a special press conference at 7pm.

The government have been clear that they are keen to see schools return as their number one priority.

They are also hoping to see some outdoor activities resume, with the possibility of outdoor socialising with other households.

More than 17.5m have been vaccinated with the PM pledging yesterday to get every adult in the UK vaccinated by the end of July.

With all this in mind these are the dates we could expect to see things return, with something resembling "normal life" expected in the next few months.

March 8

Primary and secondary schools are expected to be able to return on March 8, but there are likely to be exemptions for schools in areas of localised high infections.

Outdoor exercise is predicted to be allowed from March 8, with non contact sports such as tennis and golf to follow two weeks later.

On March 8 care home residents will also be allowed a regular indoor visitor.

Easter Sunday - April 4

Friends and families are reportedly set to be allowed to meet in time for Easter, but restricted initially to two households.

Non essential shops will be allowed to open just after Easter, but hairdressers and beauty shops will stay closed for longer.

Pubs could be open, for al fresco service only, in April without the 10pm curfew or “substantial meal” rule imposed in the earlier lockdown easings.

Ministers are looking at plans for people who live in the same household to be allowed to go on staycation breaks from April, according to the Times newspaper.

May

Pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues are expected to open more widely in May but customers will be limited to meeting one other household or obeying the rule of six outdoors.

Large outdoor events such as crowds at football matches or even music festivals could be allowed by the end of May.

June

People could be allowed to meet indoors in early June, probably under the rule of six.

July

With everyone expected to be vaccinated by the end of July there is the possibility that social mixing will be “broadly back to normal” by July.
