The Earl Thomas saga continues. The Seattle Seahawks free safety is with his wife in Austin, Texas, where they have enrolled their kids in school, according to Mike Fisher of 247Sports.com.
Thomas has been connected to the Cowboys for well over a year after he told Cowboys coach Jason Garrett to “come get me” after a game in 2017.
After that came a very lengthy and ugly holdout by Thomas, who missed all of OTAs and the preseason, then reported right before Week 1. He played well for a few weeks but broke his leg in Week 4 against the Cardinals and missed the rest of the season.
Thomas enrolling his kids in school in his hometown of Austin certainly doesn’t guarantee that he will sign with Dallas — although it is a strong sign that he won’t be back in Seattle.
That was already the most likely scenario given his tumultuous relationship with the front office and his $10 million-plus contract demand, which is reasonable but outside of Seattle’s expected budget for 2019.
There is plenty of time for things to change, but right now Seattle is expected to go into 2019 with Tedric Thompson and Delano Hill playing free safety alongside Bradley McDougald.
