It looks like things might not be going quite so smoothly for Eamonn Holmes and his new relationship. After calling it quits with Ruth Langsford last year, the telly veteran got together with Katie Alexander, who’s 22 years his junior. But now, word is Katie’s not exactly rushing to settle down with him—and it’s reportedly left Eamonn feeling a bit down in the dumps.
The two have been seeing each other for a while now, but Katie, a marriage counsellor based in Yorkshire, is putting the brakes on moving in with the former This Morning host. And her reason? Her kids come first. She shares two teenagers with her ex-husband and isn’t keen on uprooting them just yet, reported the Mirror.
Despite Eamonn now living in a penthouse in Kingston—his fresh start after moving out of the home he once shared with Ruth, it sounds like Katie’s made it pretty clear that she’s staying put for now. A source told MailOnline: “There’s no way she will move in with Eamonn in the near future, or for many years. She has her children to consider. Truth be told, they are a little unsettled at her relationship being played out in the media and she doesn’t want to uproot them.”
It’s not all bad, though. The source added that her kids have met Eamonn and apparently get along with him just fine. But the setup isn’t quite what Eamonn had hoped for. “Eamonn seems so lonely since splitting with Ruth, so it’s not exactly ideal for him.”
Eamonn and Ruth were together for over 14 years, having first got together in 1996 and tying the knot in 2010. They officially ended their marriage last spring, and while they’ve mostly kept quiet about the reasons behind the split, Ruth did open up a bit recently.
Speaking to Woman and Home Magazine, Ruth admitted: “A break-up of a relationship is hard enough for anybody to deal with. A divorce is very difficult and it’s very painful, but most people don’t have to do it in the public eye, with everybody having an opinion about you and writing things about you and commenting things about you.”
She also got real about being single again: “I’m quite fine being on my own, but not forever. When you’re in a relationship, it’s easy to say, ‘Great, I’ve got a weekend to myself,’ but when you think that might be every weekend, it’s a different story.”
Last May, the couple put out a short and sharp joint statement confirming the end of their marriage: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”
