Eamonn Holmes 'unable to sleep' as This Morning absence concerns fans

A restless Eamonn Holmes has revealed that chronic pain left him unable to sleep as his absence from This Morning this week has concerned fans.

The popular presenter first shared news in March that he was in hospital after being struck down by unbearable pain, telling his many Twitter followers: "My pain hasn't gone away but understandably and unluckily for me the professionals who analyse and diagnose are on an Easter break.

"So to everyone, Twitter community, Family and friends who are asking, 'What's wrong?', unfortunately I won't know until the middle of next week."

Since then Eamonn has made a few appearances on This Morning alongside wife Ruth Langsford, who admitted she felt "helpless" over his condition.

Last week Eamonn had some positive news when he told fans he felt he was "making progress" after physio sessions and steroid injections to combat the pain.

But it looks like he's having a tough week as he took to Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday to write: "Not a drop of sleep in me tonight I'm afraid"

One follower replied: "To suffer from chronic pain is awful. It takes over your life - you can’t sleep and struggle with fatigue and headaches during daytime.

"I have struggled all my life but there are ways that can help. I am facing more surgery in the coming weeks on my back so I know your pain."

Eamonn's tweet came as This Morning viewers wondered why he and Ruth weren't hosting the show over half term, having been confirmed as 'holiday cover' for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby when they lost their Friday slot to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

Alison and Dermot are hosting the ITV show all week, but plenty of viewers were wanting and expecting to see Eamonn and Ruth at the helm.

One tweeted: "Eamonn and ruth...please come back!" and a second posted: "How comes Eamonn and Ruth aren’t presenting this week I thought it was always them in the holidays ?" to which another fan replied: "Eamonn slipped a disc according to his twitter page so that may explain their absence"
