Eamonn Holmes supports bereaved heart families with touching gesture

Eamonn Holmes has given up his time to help families in Northern Ireland who have lost children to congenital heart disease.

The TV host has joined forces with Children's Heartbeat Trust charity today on World Heart Day, September 29 to take part in the charity's virtual Warrior Walk.

As part of the event, Eamonn will read a special poem for families and virtually walk with them as they partake in walks right across Northern Ireland.

The McGeady family from Newtownabbey know all too well the pain of losing a child to congenital heart disease.

They said: “When we found out that our little girl Cora had been born with congenital heart disease, the Children’s Heartbeat Trust were right there, providing practical and emotional support that we will never forget.

"Then when our daughter passed away, the charity continued to be the comforting voice at the other end of the phone and have always made us feel part of the heart warrior family.

"The heart warrior walk is the perfect way for us to continue to feel connected and remember our little girl.”

Family Support Manager with Children’s Heartbeat Trust, Cathy Dalton added; “It is so important to the charity to always remember heart warriors who have tragically passed away and it is an honour to join with their families on World Heart Day to celebrate their lives and the incredible impact they have had on those who loved them.

"Given Covid regulations this year we are unable to all walk together but we are delighted to have Eamonn Holmes join us virtually to speak to all our families and set them on their way as they take part in a walk in honour of their heart warrior.”

Eamonn will speak to the families and read a special poem at 7pm on the charity’s facebook page. The charity are also asking all members of the public to put a candle in their window at 9pm to light up their neighbourhoods and show support for bereaved heart families across Northern Ireland.
