Eamonn Holmes shares details from horror fall that saw him rushed to surgery as he scolds co-host in TV return

Eamonn Holmes has shared more details on his horror fall that saw him break his shoulder shortly after undergoing surgery on his back. The presenter made a much-welcome return to his GB News breakfast show on Monday morning (January 9) alongside co-host Isabel Webster.

It is the first time Eamonn has been at work in months after a torrid time in his personal life. Back in September, the 64-year-old underwent surgery in a bid to help his suffering from chronic pain. However, just a couple of weeks after the op, which came with a "20 per cent risk of going wrong", it was revealed Eamonn had suffered a fall during his recovery and had to undergo a second surgery after the accident left him with a fractured shoulder.

And in more tragic news, in late November, Eamonn said that his mum, Josie, has died. The former This Morning star confirmed the sad news on Instagram alongside a photo of his mum before her death waving to him from her front door. He was then later unable to travel back to Northern Ireland to attend the funeral and had to watch via a stream at the Surrey home he shares with Ruth.

But after being forced to take a fourth-month break from his role on GB News, Eamonn made a much-welcomed return on Monday morning. Prior to his appearance, the former This Morning host said in a video posted to social media: "Hello there, everybody. Just to say, after nearly four months away off the telly, I'm back tomorrow. Sounds like a threat, doesn't it?

"You may or may not be aware of what happened to me. I got some back surgery, I’ve had disc problems for a year and a half or so, and then got some back surgery, which affected one of my legs, which led to me falling downstairs, led to me breaking my shoulder. So I had a leg that didn't work and a shoulder that didn't work, and lots of other things in between.

"But here I am. I feel that there are only so many boxsets that I can watch or recommend to you, and I'm not better, but I'm better than I was. And I've decided to make an attempt to go back to work on GB News from tomorrow on the basis that work, hopefully will heal me. Any of you who are long-term sick or in any way convalescing, particularly at home, will know that there's a lot of frustration involved in it.

"And for me, I think I'm going to give it a go, be back to work, and hopefully get better as a result of doing day-to-day things. Now, on a day-to-day basis, all I need is you to be there."

During his first episode back, Isabel read comments from viewers sharing their delight but as one asked Eamonn about 'what is wrong with him', he said with an exasperated laugh: "I can't walk." He went on to say that everything from the waist up 'works' but it's his legs that don't.

As Isabel suggested his operation has 'set him back for the moment', Eamonn said: "It's set me back and made me fall down the stairs. I fell down 18 stairs." His co-host replied: "You shouldn't have been climbing the stairs," but Eamonn was quick to scold her after she made an error when welcoming her co-star back.

"What am I supposed to do? How do I get to bed? I fell down the spiral staircase and smashed my left shoulder... The first thing you did was lean on my shoulder." As Isabel giggled she said: "Sorry, I did. I won't be doing that again or he'll be off for another four months. Sorry about that."
