Eamonn Holmes reveals he is going to be a grandfather

Eamonn Holmes has revealed he is going to be a grandfather for the first time.

While appearing on This Morning on Wednesday, the delighted Belfast -born TV presenter revealed his son Declan is going be a father with wife Jenny, with the baby due this July.

He said: "Thank you for bringing so much joy and happiness into our lives at this miserable time."

Eamonn has three children Declan, Rebecca and Niall with ex-wife Gabrielle along with 19-year-old Jack with wife Ruth Langsford.

He said: "It has been a very tough year for so many people, there is not much good news around, and I have been having a very tough week.

"It hasn't been a good time and I've been in tears."

Eamonn then showed a photo of his eldest son Declan (32) and wife Jenny, while saying: "They have just announced that I, together with Valerie and Robin, Jenny's mum and dad and Gabrielle, Declan's mummy - we are all going to be grandparents.

"Can you seriously believe I am going to be a Grandpa?" before joking that he is far too young.

While blowing kisses, Ruth added, "Declan and Jenny we are so so happy for you, lots of love to you, it's amazing" and revealed how emotional Eamonn has been.

"Can't wait, they are going to be the most wonderful parents.

"That baby is going to be very, very loved," she added.

Eamonn and Ruth joked that she will be the "wicked step-grandmother", with the Northern Irish broadcaster suggesting being called "papa".

Declan is currently the same age his father was when he first became a dad.

Eamonn left fans in suspense as he took to social media on Tuesday night to let users know something exciting was coming.

He said: "Can u keep a secret? Got something to tell u at 11 am on Wednesday's #ThisMorning. I hope you will be happy for me because I am over the Moon. It's even, for the moment, made me forget my #ChronicPain - yes it's that good."

One user replied: "Are you the next talented journalist to join the wonderful line-up on @GBNEWS?" with another asking if he was going be a grandad for the first time.

The broadcaster has also been sharing is health battle with chronic pain after injuring his back a few months ago, but still doesn't know the source of the problem.

He updated fans on Twitter and said: "Physio hurt this morning... I mean really hurt. Anyway on the plus side it certainly woke me up. "

Eamonn and Ruth are back on our screens all week for the Easter break.

Their Friday slot on the ITV daytime show was replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary back in December after 15 years.

The pair previously presented This Morning on Mondays to Thursdays during school holidays along with Fridays.
