Eamonn Holmes 'quite depressed' about back problems and doesn't think it'll get better

Eamonn Holmes has admitted that he often feels depressed about his ongoing chronic pain and back problems.

The This Morning star, 61, has been in agony for some time, but only told fans about his ordeal a few months ago.

Back in April, Eamonn opened up about how the pain he feels had been keeping him awake at night - leaving him exhausted and in agony.

On Friday's episode of This Morning, he mentioned his back problems again as he and wife Ruth Langsford invited former rugby player Ed Jackson into the studio.

Ed's life changed forever on one sunny Saturday afternoon in April 2017 when he jumped into a swimming pool and ended up injuring himself.

Ed didn't realise that the ripples from a water feature made the pool look deeper than it was and just dived in.

He hit his head on the tiles at the bottom and ended up paralysed and told he would never walk again.

However, Ed has worked hard and made amazing progress - and even walked into the This Morning studio.

Eamonn was clearly in awe of Ed, and mentioned his own experience of having trouble walking.

"Not only did they say you're not going to walk again, but you couldn't feel anything at that stage from your chest downwards," Eamonn began.

"The prognosis, not good. I don't know what the expectations was for you, but could I just say, in my minor way I’ve got two slipped discs and I’ve got problems walking and whatever, whatever," Eamonn explained.

"It’s been going on for three months and I get quite depressed about it sometimes and I think, ‘this is not going to get better'.

"My friend, how humbled am I reading your story and listening to you because your prognosis was: that's it! And I watched you today walk into the studio, walk across here, how are you doing that?" he then said to Ed, as the former sportsman smiled.

"I've been incredibly lucky and you can recover within the scope of your injury and yes I was told I was never going to walk again, but there was still a chance," Ed replied.

Ed's fiancée Lois decided to stick by him and the couple revealed they since gotten married, but the drastic change to their lives hasn't been without it's struggles.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
