Eamonn Holmes officially joins GB News after 15 years at This Morning

Eamonn Holmes is joining GB News in a move he described as "one of the most exciting yet".

The Belfast-born TV personality, who has presented episodes This Morning alongside his wife Ruth Langsford for 15 years, will join the channel in early 2022.

It comes after several high profile figures in broadcasting and politics have moved to work with GB News in the past year, including former First Minister Arlene Foster.

Speaking today about the move, Eamonn Holmes said: "I've spent my career on broadcasting firsts and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting yet. It's just the kind of shake-up the industry needs.

He added: "I've admired GB News from the beginning for its clever mix of punchy debate but delivered with warmth and even some fun. To me the greatest honour in journalism is to give a voice and respect to the unheard, and that's exactly what GB News is all about."

The move is the latest in Holmes' illustrious career, which has seen him work on everything from game shows to sports events to documentaries, as well as radio programmes on stations such as 5 Live and talk RADIO.

In December 2020, it was announced that Eamonn and Ruth - who used to host This Morning every Friday - were being replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary on Fridays.

As a result, the pair would only return to the show for the holidays - to cover main hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield.

In a statement sharing the news today, GB News said: "Broadcaster and journalist Eamonn Holmes is joining GB News to host a new programme in the New Year.

"As one of the most recognised faces and voices in British broadcasting, Eamonn joins from ITV, where he has anchored This Morning for 15 years.

''He spent 12 years co-presenting GMTV and 11 years hosting Sunrise at Sky News.

"In a career spanning more than 40 years, Eamonn has presented a vast array of programmes including game shows, panel shows, sports events, documentaries, news and current affairs, religious programmes, and children's shows.

"He is widely known as a radio host, having presented his own programmes on numerous stations including Radio 5 Live, Magic, BBC Radio 2, and talk RADIO.

"Eamonn grew up in Belfast and started his journalism career at a Dublin-based magazine before joining Ulster Television as a reporter for Farming Ulster. By the time he was 21, he was anchoring the channel's flagship show, Good Evening Ulster.

"He is a four-time winner of the awards from the Television and Radio Industries Club, including News Presenter of the Year, Satellite TV Personality of the Year, and the Legends of Industry Award for Services to Broadcasting and Journalism.

"He was named Best Breakfast TV Presenter in the Radio Times awards in 2017 after a vote by more than 33,000 viewers and was appointed an OBE for services to broadcasting in the Queen's New Years Honours in 2018."
