Eamonn Holmes makes This Morning return after Vernon Kay pulls out of presenting spot

Eamonn Holmes has returned to the This Morning sofa just days after his summer stint on the show was due to finish.

Along with his wife and co-presenter, Ruth Langsford, the 61-year-old broadcaster had been presenting the popular ITV daytime show during the summer holidays, and Friday was billed as the pair's last show.

However, Eamonn was taken "off the bench" after Vernon Kay tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend and so will miss his presenting debut on the programme.

Alison Hammond has also been forced to miss the show due to illness.

This week, Vernon was due to host the show from Tuesday to Thursday alongside Rochelle Humes, while Allison was planning to join the former Saturday's singer on Monday and Friday.

But plans have changed, with Eamonn stepping in at the last minute.

The Belfast native tweeted on Sunday: "Just when u thought you’d got rid of me…sickness with @AlisonHammond and @vernonkay means I’m off the bench.

"Get well soon to them but I have my boots on and I’m ready to play. Monday and Tues line up is now myself and @RochelleHumes. Hope you can join us."

He also shared a photo of himself with Rochelle to Instagram and said: "Change of plan for Bank Holiday #ThisMorning.

"Unfortunately @alisonhammond55 can't make it so it's Roch and me. Hope u can join us from 10am."

The change of line-up on the show only applies to this week, as Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are set to resume hosting duties from September 6.
