Eamonn Holmes 'learning to walk again' after losing nerves in his leg from slipped disc

Eamonn Holmes has likened his agonising slipped disc recovery to "learning to walk again" in a new video he shared on social media on Friday.

The 61-year-old presenter was diagnosed with a dislocated pelvis and three slipped discs in March that had left him dependent on crutches and in chronic pain.

Now focusing on his rehab, the star decided to give his fans a glimpse of his recovery on his Twitter and shockingly revealed he's lost nerves in his right leg due to his injury.

Clad in his workout gear, Eamonn began: "OK I'm still crutch dependent and the idea is to get rid of this and the man that's going to get rid of this for me is this man James Davis!"

Eamonn continued: "... This all looks very simple and it is very simple except it's like learning to walk again.

"I've lost nerves in my right leg and there's certain actions I can't do so even the most simple thing is hard but it's getting better."

The video showed Eamonn working out in his back garden, trying several exercises to strength and stabilise his pelvis as well as the muscles around his lumbar spine.

The TV star showed that his rehab not only includes exercises but massage or pressure point treatments to fire up the muscles surrounding the area of his injury.

Sitting on a treatment table, the This Morning host continued: "The whole recuperation path there's so many aspects to it.

"James is the boss man and you know, he has me here on the treatment table. Some of it is quite pleasant.

"Not a lot if it but I know he's doing a good job and do you think we're making progress?" he said to camera. "Lots! That shows you how bad I was in the first place.

"But the treatment table and his magic hands very, very important."

At the end of the two minute clip, Eamonn was seen sporting pressure socks, which promotes circulation to feed nerves ending in his legs.

"Then to round the day or the session off I put on my socks!" he shared. "These are pressure socks, don't worry I'm perfectly safe in them.

"These are used by a lot of elite athletes to help the healing process... In the meantime, it is so comfortable I think I'll just do 45 minutes and maybe doze off."

After sharing his video, Eamonn was inundated with messages of support from fans who wished him well on his recovery.

One fan penned: "Eamonn, thank you so much for sharing this valuable information. Not only showing everyone that you are well on the road to recovery but also that there is hope for others in the same position."

"Oh my goodness, I hadn’t realised how bad you were," another shared. "I wish you well and I hope you and Ruth will be tripping the light fantastic soon. Much love. X".

A third commented: "This is an amazing little video Eamonn. Hope you make more BUT more importantly I’m so happy you’re making progress. Sending you lots of love".

The TV presenter's update comes days after he revealed that his chronic pain is finally gone thanks to a slew of treatments including steroid injections.

Taking to his Twitter page on Wednesday, Eamonn revealed to followers that he finally felt like he was "making progress" and was now focused on strengthening his back.

"Another session of Physio rehab - feels like I'm making progress - slowly but surely," he wrote.

"Chronic Pain now gone because of Steroid injections - Thank God. Got to strengthen my back now. Small steps , literally. but feeling positive. Thanks for sharing your stories."

Eamonn has been suffering with chronic pain for a few months now. In April the agony got so bad while filming This Morning that the presenter returned to the set with a walking stick before chatting to members of the public about suffering chronic pain.

Ruth told: "Now, many of you who follow Eamonn on social media will know he has been talking a lot about chronic pain.

"It's ironic that he's not here because he had to nip to the loo. It takes him so long walking, so he's just on his way back. It takes him longer to walk now."

He had told viewers earlier in the show that the pain was giving him sleepless nights and added at the time that he had an MRI scheduled that would hopefully determine the source of the pain.

Doctors were eventually able to get to the bottom of his agony and diagnosed the star with a dislocated pelvis.

He then revealed that he also had three slipped discs in his back and was doing everything he could to alleviate the pain.
