Eamonn Holmes has steroid injections to help combat 'draining and debilitating' back pain

Eamonn Holmes has revealed doctors have given him steroid injections as he battles chronic back pain which has left him feeling drained.

The 61-year-old has opened up about his health problems, telling followers on Twitter he has been in agony and suffering sleepless nights.

He recently had an MRI scan to get to the bottom of his pain and has also had physiotherapy - which he said "felt like progress".

The Northern Ireland-born presenter has now apologised to his followers on social media for not replying to more messages after he revealed he is about to become a granddad, the Mirror reports.

He wrote: "I have been very bad at answering and acknowledging so many 'Grandpa' good wishes today.

"Please forgive and understand how draining and debilitating this back pain I'm suffering is. I'm drained.

"Had steroid injections today which will hopefully turn the tide."

Eamonn recently admitted that his health has "taken a turn for the worse" as he opened up about his struggle.

During a conversation with Andrew Neil and Georgia Toffolo on This Morning, Eamonn was asked if he knew the cause and he put it down to "discs" and "all sorts of things".

Eamonn's fans have been sharing their own stories of how they dealt with "dehabilitating" chronic pain.

He has also offered his own tips, including how much better he felt after a cold shower recommended by his physiotherapist.
